I have some exciting news to share – Breastfeeding Jersey has a new home in the heart of St Helier.
From 1 September, you’ll be able to find me at the new Wellness Suite at:
13 Library Place
St Helier
Jersey
I will, of course, continue to offer breastfeeding and newborn home visits across Jersey. I know only too well that in those early days with a new baby, getting dressed and out of the house can sometimes feel like an achievement in itself!
For many new mums, having me come to you at home is the easiest and most comfortable option. It also means I can support you with breastfeeding in the environment where you normally feed your baby.
But not everyone wants or needs a home visit, and some parents prefer to come and see me in clinic. My new consulting room at Library Place gives you that option.
Breastfeeding support – and looking at the whole baby
As both a Breastfeeding Coach and experienced McTimoney Chiropractor, my approach is a little different.
If breastfeeding is difficult, I can spend time looking at positioning and latch, listening to what's happening during feeds and helping you find practical ways to make feeding more comfortable.
But I also have a particular interest in physical tension in newborns.
Sometimes a parent will notice that their baby strongly prefers turning their head in one direction, seems uncomfortable feeding on one side, arches or feels particularly tense through their body. These are things we can look at together.
Where appropriate, I can assess whether physical tension or restriction may be contributing to difficulties with comfortable positioning and feeding and discuss whether gentle care may be suitable.
It means we're not simply looking at the breast or the latch – we're looking at you, your baby and the whole feeding picture.
Home visit or clinic – the choice is yours
If you are newly postnatal, tired, sore or simply don't fancy packing everything up and getting out with your newborn, I'll continue to come to you at home anywhere in Jersey.
If you'd rather come into town, you can now choose an appointment with me at 13 Library Place in St Helier.
The new Wellness Suite is on the first floor and there is a lift, although there are a few steps to negotiate before reaching it.
A little tip if you're bringing a pram
If possible, I recommend wearing or carrying your baby when you arrive, as access with a pram isn't the easiest.
The front door is quite heavy and there is a step as you enter, followed by three more steps before you reach the lift.
Once you're on the first floor, there are another two small steps before my consulting room. If you do bring a pram, you can leave it at the top of those final steps, at your own risk, while you're with me, or in our waiting room.
Please don't worry if arriving with your baby feels a little chaotic. You don't need to arrive with a freshly fed, sleeping baby or have everything perfectly organised. Newborns don't work to appointment schedules – and I don't expect them to!
A new chapter for Breastfeeding Jersey
I'm really looking forward to welcoming mums and babies into my new room at Library Place.
Whether I see you in the comfort of your own home or at the new clinic, my aim remains the same: to give you time, individual support and practical guidance, and to help you feel more confident about feeding and caring for your baby.
